Advocacy in Action Virtual Workshops

Engage with representatives from UMBC’s Office of Equity and Inclusion as well as a private, non-profit agency, TurnAround, Inc. during our Advocacy in Action workshop series.

These three workshops will take place online (via Webex) on select dates in March and April and are open to both undergraduate and graduate UMBC-Shady Grove students. Sessions will focus on a variety of important topics related to Title IX, identifying healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors, and bystander intervention techniques.

Please see below to register for the sessions you would like to attend, as well as further information regarding specific session topics and details.

Upcoming Sessions

Title IX Workshop: Tuesday, March 9th | 4:30 - 5:45 PM

Do you know a survivor of sexual or gender based violence or harassment? Are you a survivor? Are you interested in knowing where to go and what to do if you encounter sexual violence? Are you wondering about accountability for perpetrators of violence? Join Ever Hanna, Training and Case Manager at UMBC’s Office of Equity and Inclusion for an overview of Title IX and campus sexual violence that will answer these questions and more. Participants will learn about the laws, policies, and best practices that govern sexual violence reporting and prevention on college campuses.

Hosted by Ever Hanna, Training and Case Manager, UMBC Office of Equity and Inclusion.

Bystander Intervention: Wednesday, March 31st | 4:30 - 5:45 PM

Please join us for an interactive session on Bystander Intervention where we will unpack the intersections of violence and reflect on how this impacts our likelihood to intervene in harmful situations. Participants will also learn bystander intervention techniques, also known as the 5 D’s, and reflect on when and how each method might be right for you. This workshop is inclusive of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and is a safe, judgement-free zone.

Hosted by TurnAround Inc., a non-profit organization that offers free support services to survivors of sexual assault and intimate violence in Baltimore City and Baltimore County, as well as free prevention education trainings to local schools and organizations.
