New Faculty: Welcome to UMBC!

Welcome to UMBC-Shady Grove! It is a pleasure to have you join our team for the upcoming semester. As an integral part of our success at USG, we want to take this opportunity to say thank you for your hard work and dedication to helping our students succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.

To gain access to the various UMBC faculty resources, new faculty must complete the steps listed below. Once these steps are complete, please stay tuned for more information from Caitlin Scheidegger to ensure you are set for the upcoming semester. Again, welcome to UMBC!

New Faculty Checklist

Step 1

Be on the lookout for a “Pre-Hire DocuSign” email from a member of the HR team (Caitlin Scheidegger, Deidre Young, Kimberly Hardaway or Steve Wicker). You will receive a similar email to complete the I-9 form.

Step 2

Complete the remainder of the HR paperwork and schedule an in person appointment with Caitlin Scheidegger (cscheid1@umbc.edu) at UMBC-Shady Grove for document review and verification.

Visit the HR Paperwork for New Hires webpage to find all paper documents that need to be completed.

These forms must be completed and/or delivered in person. You must bring the required documents for employment verification with you when you come in for your appointment.

Failure to provide these documents in a timely manner may result in payroll processing delays.

Step 3

You will also receive an automated email with your campus ID and directions for creating an email account and accessing Blackboard. Create your account and ensure your access is fulfilled as soon as possible after receiving this email.

Step 4

Keep a lookout for an invitation to join the UMBC Shady Grove Faculty group and an RSVP invite for our next upcoming Faculty Meet and Greet.

Graduate Faculty Only: Submit a brief bio and headshot to your program director.
