Answers to frequently asked questions for parents, guardians, and families.

Does a student need to go to Baltimore to participate in the pathway program?

No, all programming and college courses are provided in Montgomery County – mostly at a Montgomery College Campus or at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, MD. Some travel to employer sites in the region may be occasionally required.

Is there a cost to the pathway program?

There is no cost for students to participate. Students receive academic guidance, career coaching, and experiential learning at no cost. Students will be responsible for paying for college courses and institutional fees in their degree pathway at MC and UMBC-Shady Grove. While scholarships are not guaranteed to pathway program students, staff will provide support in finding and applying for scholarships throughout the program.

Is the Pathway a Dual Enrollment Program?

The pathway is not a dual enrollment program – however, students who are engaged in dual enrollment and early college with MC are welcome to apply–as long as they are interested in one of the local degree programs supported by the program. Dual enrollment and our pathway programs are compatible, and students can participate in both.

Can ACES Students participate in a pathway program?

Yes – ACES students who are interested in one of the degree pathways are encouraged to apply for the program. Students may not have yet received their acceptance notification from the ACES Program at the time they submit an application to the program. Because ACES and the pathways programs are compatible programs that students can participate in simultaneously – ACES applicants are encouraged to apply for a pathway program.

When should a student apply for the pathway program?

Students should apply for a pathway program when they are a student at Montgomery College. To apply, students should attend an information session.
