UMBC-Shady Grove Virtual Orientation

As part of your Orientation process, we recognize the importance of connecting with the Program Director of your major of choice. To that end, when completing your online Orientation course modules, one module will consist of a message from your Program Director providing an overview of the program along with important information for you to keep in mind as you prepare for the spring semester and to register for spring classes.

In addition, our Program Directors from Computer Science, History, Social Work, Political Science, Psychology, and Translational Life Science Technology (TLST) will be available to chat via real-time WebEx sessions hosted specifically for admitted students.

Program Director Orientation Sessions

The live “Connect with Your Program Director” WebEx sessions will occur on Thursday, January 21 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Use the links below to connect to your session.

Connect with our Student Billing Services, Financial Aid, and Student Disability Services!

As part of your online Orientation hosted in UMBC’s Blackboard platform, you will complete a number of self-paced modules including those focused on Student Business Services and Financial Aid. You will also have the option of engaging in a module detailing resources and support provided through UMBC’s Student Disability Services office. Because we recognize that Student Business Services, Financial Aid and Student Disability Services provide services frequently used by our UMBC-Shady Grove students, we want to invite you to connect (via virtual WebEx sessions) with representatives from these offices during the week of January 18 – 22. These sessions will allow you to ask questions and address concerns in real time related to the specific services these offices provide.

Connect with Your Peer Advisory Team (PAT) Pal!

All new incoming students are paired with a PAT member who will serve as your “PAT Pal” during your first semester at UMBC-Shady Grove. You will receive monthly emails from your PAT Pal and will have opportunities to connect with them throughout the spring semester. Please note that your assigned PAT Pal will host a live “PAT Pal Small Group Session” with you and a number of your peers via WebEx on Friday, January 22 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. You will receive an introductory welcome email from your designated PAT Pal in January inviting you to meet and connect with them through the live WebEx session on Friday, January 22. Keep an eye on your UMBC email for more information and the invite!
